Many people suffer from lower back pain. Computers provide pain relief from a variety of healthcare providers, including orthopedists, chiropractors, and physical therapists. Many factors can cause back pain. The pelvis is one of the areas of the human body, that can cause back pain conditions. This article will discuss the pelvis and how it relates to back situations.
The pelvis is at the base of the spine. This is not one solid bone, but three separate bones. The two bones on either side are called the iliac bones (the "wings" of the pelvis). The bone in the middle is called the sacrum (the tailbone). Between the sacrum and the iliac bone, there are two large joints called sacroiliac joints. The sacroiliac joint is a sliding-type joint - for example, it slides back and forth when we walk. The hip joint is in front of the pelvis. Pelvic and thigh bones, called femurs, form the balls and sockets of our hips.
Many muscles attach to different parts of the pelvis. Abdominal muscles, hamstrings, gluteal muscles, thigh muscles, and hamstrings all arise from or insert into the pelvic bone.

Problems can occur if the pelvic bones are misaligned or the joints are misaligned. The pain can come from the joint between the top of the sacrum and the lower spine. There may also be discomfort from the affected sacroiliac joint. The hip joint can also be involved.
Any altered mechanical movement patterns of these joints can lead to pain and dysfunction. For example, women experience lower back discomfort during and after pregnancy. Students may have difficulty participating in sports. Anyone involved in physical construction, landscaping, or service work may be hindered by pain. Even office workers may find, they cannot sit still for long periods.
If a person has pelvic imbalances and movement patterns are changed, one lower limb can bear more weight than the other. Left untreated for several years, this can lead to kidney and/or knee joint damage that may require surgical replacement with an artificial hip or knee replacement.

Chiropractors specialize in diagnosing structural abnormalities, imbalances, and misalignments of the joints related to the pelvis. Practitioners can perform a treatment called pelvic manipulation, which realigns the pelvis so the patient bears the same weight on both lower extremities. Chiropractic manipulation can restore proper motion to the pelvic and hip joints. This will relieve pain that may occur in the back, pelvis, and kidneys.
For over 125 years, the chiropractic profession has been helping patients with this type of musculoskeletal condition with conservative treatment to relieve pain and resume normal activities.
