1. Headache
Many types of headaches can occur after a concussion. They are mostly similar to the types of headaches that occur in the non-concussed population. - and this requires a multidisciplinary approach, such as that offered at our York Region Medical Clinic and York Region Physiotherapy.
2. Neck pain
Whiplash is a neck injury that occurs in conjunction with a concussion. There is no hard and fast rule for the force required to cause a concussion, but many biomechanical studies have shown that concussion occurs with forces around the head greater than 80-95g. In a classic "rear-end" motor vehicle crash, whiplash has been shown to it develops only 12 g of force, which is needed for the whip (corresponding to an impact speed of 32 km/h).
3. Dizziness/imbalance
Generally, it is caused by some change in the way the vestibule works, the way signals are transmitted from the vestibule to the brain, the way the brain processes those signals, and/or the way the brain uses that information to regulate itself . . your automatic reflexes – reflexes that most of us take for granted because we are generally unaware of them. Vestibular therapy in an integrative mode, such as that offered at our Aurora Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Center, is required.
4. Sensitivity to light
Immediate helpful measures include avoiding offending lighting and using sunglasses to cope when the lighting is out of your control. This symptom will also improve your energy management, sleep, autonomic nervous system training, and treatment of any vestibular and binocular vision abnormalities. A more central location for those looking for sports physical therapy in Vaughan or physical therapy in Markham, our Thornhill location offers vision therapy for those looking for a concussion specialist in Toronto and the surrounding area with experience in binocular vision disorders.
5. Insomnia
Brain synaptic activity is thought to return to a low baseline during sleep compared to when a person is awake when 80% of the brain's energy is used.
