Vitiligo Treatment

Vitiligo is a medical condition where your skin loses its true color. Vitiligo varies from person to person, some may have just a few small spots and some may have more discoloration. Vitiligo is an acquired condition that can develop anywhere in the body where there is an uneven loss of melanin from the epidermis, causing the skin to have pale areas all over the body.

About half of patients develop vitiligo by age 20, and 90% develop it by age 40. And it can also be seen that 20 percent of people living with vitiligo have a blood relative with the same disease.

Skin color is produced by special cells known as melanocytes. When the melanocytes are not able to produce enough color for our body, then this condition occurs and affects our skin. The patches that form as a result are called macules. These lesions are generally painless and the macules vary in size and can be found on any part of the body.

Causes of vitiligo

This condition develops in people of all races. Vitiligo in patients can be divided into 2 main types, known as extrinsic and intrinsic causes. Some of the common external causes we have seen in Vitiligo patients is excessive use of tight clothing. Tight clothing generally leaves marks or abrasions on a person's body, which can then turn into vitiligo.

The same problem has also been observed in several patients using plastic or nylon stirrups. Pollution also plays a big role, as the percentage of vitiligo is higher in cities with higher levels of pollution. It has also been observed on several occasions, vitiligo has started in a woman who has recently undergone a major hormonal change, eg pregnancy or stopping/starting the pill.

Overuse of antibiotics has also been considered one of the causes of vitiligo. Vitiligo also occurs at the sites of injuries, cuts, scratches, and burns on the skin. Wearing artificial jewelry is another common reason for women. Hypertension can also lead to a higher risk of vitiligo in patients. Stress is thought to be a key factor behind what may have disrupted the regulation of your immune system. You must try to reduce tension and anxiety as much as possible. Stressful conditions can slow your recovery and lead to skin problems.

With years of experience and with the help of Ayurveda, we also saw that some bad eating habits also played a big role in increasing the level of toxic substances in the human body. Having things like lemon, cottage cheese, and cucumbers with or after milk can increase the level of toxins, which in turn can increase the risk of infection or discoloration of your skin. Another thing we must avoid is eating non-vegetarian food with milk.

40-50% of vitiligo patients also had stomach problems such as gas or constipation. These stomach problems generally affect our skin and can lead to vitiligo in most patients.
