Sacred Home Yoga

I open the large Havel doors to a veranda that leads to the lush gardens, where a sandstone Buddha statue sits, seated with a bowl, in the mudra of a moving earth. carved in black granite with raised trunk, the maharaja elephant evokes the grandeur of the olden days. Surrounded by old oak trees and birds of paradise, this is the view from my yoga room in my house, my sacred space and sanctuary where I practice daily. I accept the goodness of Mother Earth and offer her my devotion.

In my yoga room is my beautiful altar, made from an old Indian window, where I practice meditation and align my chakras. Hand-carved deities from Vedic traditions have great energy. On my altar are the Sri Yantra and Shiva, the mystic dancer, and Hanuman, Shiva's avatar of Rudra, known for his healing powers and pure devotion. The pictures of my mom and dad and the sacred text of the Bhagwad Gita guide me to follow the right path.

The mala with lapis lazuli beads strung with rudraksha, hand-tied with cotton tassels, adorns Shiva, and the quartz crystal. Ganesha loves red and rules the root chakra, the coral mala beads ground me to the earth as I sit in my energy and love asana. Altars are religious centers for yoga or meditation and energize the space around them, increasing the resonance of your soul.

Old-world artistic features such as antique arches built into the wall create a beautiful backdrop for my yoga retreat. Light and airy sari drapes flutter in the breeze and handwoven cotton throws on the floor are perfect for sitting. It is my place of solace where I come to recharge my spiritual energy. The energy grows and multiplies with each mantra and reflects back to me. It is a beautiful place to meditate and find inspiration, connect with the universe and grow with the seasons.

The carved barn doors of Saraswati and Vishnu, whitewashed with subtle hues of color that seep through, are a divine delight. I used them as the door to my yoga retreat. The old woods are so grounding and grounding and looking at the ancient carvings brings me the pure joy of divine bliss
